WooCommerce Composite Products Plugin: Why You Need It
This plugin is for selling kits with configurable parts. For example: your customers need to ‘build-to-order’ a computer via your WooCommerce store. With this plugin, they can! Customers can select an individual product for each computer component and choose a quantity.
Choose this plugin when you need to manage the inventory of the individual parts of your product or when you need to individually track the parts with reports. In this case, each part has a SKU and so there are multiple SKUs associated with the composite product.
“Why can’t I just use variable products?”
Making your WooCommerce product variable is a great way to offer similar products that have the same configurable attributes. But, when the variable product is purchased, only a single SKU is assigned—the SKU for the variation that the customer selected.

Sure! If you want to make a product only available as a part of a composite product, use the WooCommerce Catalog Visibility Options Extension to hide it from your product search.
“Can I use this plugin with Variable Products?”
You can technically add variable products as a composite product ‘component’ however there are some limitations:
- Variations themselves can’t be added as components.
- If the variable product has a lot of variations, you will likely experience long load times.
- If you are conditionally excluding variations, variable product prices won’t dynamically update in dropdown, radio button and thumbnail templates.

This is an example of a plugin I would not have tried at the regular price, but glad I did for the discounted one. As others have said, takes some time to understand all the possibilities here, but it’s definitely a powerful plugin that saves a ton of programming for clients and businesses that need the functionality it offers.

Allows for extremely advanced creation of custom bundles, packages, or products ranging from vacation plans to high-end consumer goods like custom computers. All-around awesome extension, assuming your store keeps parts as individual SKUs.
