WordPress already has an excellent Groups plugin which can be used to define membership levels. Combine that with the Groups for WooCommerce plugin and you can begin selling paid memberships.

If you want to add a price tag to each type of membership, you will need to add the Groups for WooCommerce extension. WooCommerce then handles the membership payments, while the Groups plugin controls where paid-up members can access.

The Groups for WooCommerce extension requires the Groups plugin for WordPress-this will allow you to protect content on your site for paying customers only.
For example, if you sold a membership and wanted to protect content to only be accessed by paying members you would use the Groups plugin to setup the approved user role content access settings and you would use Groups for WooCommerce to tie these permissions with the product/subscription. Once a customer purchases the product/subscription they will automatically have access to the protected content.
